Andy North

Chicago, IL—Andy North is a performance artist whose work explores games as physical exercise, a tool for storytelling, and an aid for interaction. His goal is to create live experiences that allow players to inhabit stories and build connections with each other, all the while promoting health and fitness. His work “Adventure Squad vs. the Sky Pirates” won the award for “Best Narrative” at the 2013 Come Out and Play festival in New York. Andy also produces live game shows around Chicago with his production company The Planetary Defense Force.

Creative Service Award Details:

• The Cause: Health & Wellness; Arts & Culture; Community Building
• The Project: An 8-week game-based fitness program intended to introduce fun into physical activity. Designed with the help of two personal trainers, the program combines team-based playground activities (variations on tag, dodgeball, races and simple play) with skill challenges and training structures
• The Award: $1,000 in creative services: (1) photo documentation of a live game event on location in Chicago
