Bishop CA—The Egg has been parked for about a month now and we’ve enjoyed the stay immensely. Bishop (pop ~3500) is ideal for us. It offers cheap, long-term camping. It has several options for locally-owned coffee shops to work at. It has two really good bakeries. Restaurants are way better than average for a town this size. And it has a climber-friendly culture (see ‘long-term camping’) that warmly welcomes everyone to this beautiful desert oasis located in the foothills of the Eastern Sierras.
In addition to climbing, in our time here Jess and I scheduled our first DesignEgg projects, as well as made great progress on existing Wickstrom Design work (A DVD design for the Ravi Shankar Foundation, two books for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and various other projects for clients in Chicago and Denver). We also saw the holidays come and go along with more than 20 close Chicago friends who made it out to Bishop to ring in the New Year with us. It was great to reconnect with familiar faces and catch up over nightly dinners. Having our friends visit us these last few weeks has been really special. For Christmas, Jess and I had a lot of fun wrapping up and handing out blocks of chalk as gifts to visiting friends as well as a few new friends we’ve made.
Well, we are in 2015 now and it feels good! This year brings about even more exciting travel than last year and we are eager to dive in. I head to Portland in a couple of weeks to work with DesignEgg Creative Service Award recipients ‘Wonderheads’—a theater group using really creative, handmade masks. I am excited see the city for my first time and grab some great shots of this talented group. After that, we head south to Vegas, Flagstaff, Santa Fe and beyond before hitting the southeast by spring…
